Tamarind - St James, Barbados
Tamarind is an intriguing blend of Mediterranean style and Caribbean magic. With its red-tiled buildings, beautiful fountains and colourful courtyards tucked away in secluded corners, guests have a pervading sense of privacy and tranquillity. The landscaped gardens open onto a long stretch of white sand beach. It was refurbished in October 2010 with stylish and modern new features.

Tamarind offers breakfast, lunch and dinner at a choice of two restaurants - Sasso (offering classic and contemporary Caribbean specialities at dinner only) or Tangiers (an open-air restaurant and the hotel's main dining area). Elegant Hotels offer a Dine-Around programme - please ask for details. Alternatively, you can choose to eat at Daphne's, next door, but this restaurant is not part of the Hotel and does not participate in the meal plans.
Oasis Bar offers drinks, light lunches and snacks. Sasso Bar is ideal for a drink before dinner.
There are various room categories from which to choose. All bedrooms offer air-conditioning, en suite facilities, king or twin beds, safe, fridge, hair dryer, telephone, cable TV, and a balcony or patio.
There are 3 freshwater swimming pools and complimentary water sports, including sailing, boogie boards, kayaking, windsurfing, water-skiing and snorkelling (subject to availability). There is a new state-of-the-art, air-conditioned cardio-fitness centre at the Hotel.
There is water taxi transportation between Elegant Hotel properties (weather permitting and excluding Turtle Beach Hotel on the South Coast).
Golf is available at nearby Royal Westmoreland Golf Course, The Country Club Golf Course at Sandy Lane, or the Barbados Golf Club on the South Coast.

I always liked this hotel and wanted to try it again after experiencing some problems in the past. I am delighted to report that the hotel has sorted out the staffing issues - everyone we met this time was absolutely charming and very helpful. The food was excellent and competitively priced with restaurants on the island. All the room categories are very well furnished. The pool/gardenview room is large enough to take 2 adults and a child under 8 years now!
Was pleasantly surprised with the hotel, I knew it was nice but didn't expect it to be as nice. We were upgraded to a jnr suite so the accommodation was very good. The staff were very attentive, food was good and of of course the beach is the best!!!!
We enjoyed the proximity to wide selection of restaurants. Water taxi to sister hotels was fun. We even used the reggae buses - probably safer by boat!!
All in all a great holiday,
