One of the larger Caribbean Islands, Jamaica offers miles of beautiful soft sandy beaches, contrasting with the cooler Blue Mountains. There are many rivers and waterfalls, trees and flowering plants giving rise to the title “land of wood and water” and over 250 bird species. Dunn’s River Falls is a very popular place to visit. The capital, Kingston, has a lovely natural harbour. There’s something for everyone here – families and couples are catered for and will find plenty to do.
Reggae music is part of Jamaica’s culture. Enthusiasts can visit the Bob Marley Museum, Bob Marley Experience and the Bob Marley Mausoleum. Bob Marley week takes place in February. The Reggae Sumfest in July/August offers well-known musicians as well as newcomers. Jamaica’s Carnival is held in April and is a colourful spectacle where thousands of people watch pageantry and revelry all to the background of the island’s rhythms. Golfers are spoilt for choice with 12 courses to choose from!
Why not try zip-lining, quad biking, paintballing or visit Kool Runnings Water-park for waterslides, go-karts, bungee trampoline and much more! Take a chairlift high into the rainforest or visit the Bobsled Museum. For a more leisurely pace, try drifting along the Martha Brae River or the Rio Grande on a raft made of bamboo!
