This hotel is a rarity in Tobago.

For those of you looking for peace and tranquillity, far away from the normal bustle of a modern hotel, then this tropical paradise awaits you.

You have to be a lover of tropical birds, because they share the public areas and tropical gardens with the guests. One of the two hotel parrots will insist on joining you for breakfast in the morning, and you are expected to share your fruit and toast!

Arnos Vale was formally a thriving sugar plantation nestling on a hillside, over 450 acres that teem with rare and beautiful birds. The entrance, dining room and bar are part of the original property and have an old-world, club-like atmosphere. The bedrooms are scattered over the hillside and down to the beach.

To reach the beach, guests wander through beautifully landscaped gardens, carefully designed to provide a natural, tropical feel. It is to these gardens that a stunning array of tropical birds are attracted.

The gardens slope gently down to a secluded sandy beach. Off-shore, a pristine coral reef boast some of the best snorkelling on the island.

By the beach is the swimming pool with sunbathing terraces, a bar that provides lunch, and a small shop.

Every afternoon, at 4 p.m., the hotel comes alive with birdsong as Afternoon Tea gets under way. You will again be joined by an array of tropical birds, including Mot Mot and Hummingbirds. They are happy to be fed by hand, but bird feeding tables are everywhere.

In the evening, after a cocktail in the bar watching the sunset, you can enjoy a 4-course dinner. The chef uses a variety of organically-grown fresh local produce, much of which is from the Estate's home garden. From this, he produces a variety of local and international dishes.

Local entertainment, including calypso and steel bands, is occasionally provided.

Particularly in the standard bedrooms, please do not expect the luxuries of some of the "chain" hotel groups. Although these rooms are clean, comfortable and air-conditioned, you will not find a TV, safe and luxurious furnishings - just good value for money. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and a balcony or terrace.

The Suites are being upgraded and are of a much higher standard (some do also have TVs).

Please note: it may be difficult for persons with walking disabilities due to the hilliness of the site. However, a car will take you down to the beach rooms and back to the restaurant.
